Flight procedures

The Airport of Lugano is open to private and commercial operators as well as to VFR and IFR traffic. It lies in a particular geographical context. Settled in the Vedeggio Valley the Airport is surrounded by mountainous terrain, where the natural obstacles affect very strongly the flight procedures and the aircraft performances. This is particularly true for flights conducted according to Instrumental flight rules (IFR). In fact, the use of IFR approach and departure procedures is limited to flight crew and aircraft holding a special authorisation issued by the Authorities. To obtain this authorisation the operator shall present to the Authorities: the documents proving the aircraft performances for the different phases of flight, the applicable company procedures for the type of operation he intends to execute, and a specific flight training program for the flight crew. After the approval of the mentioned documents and the positive accomplishment of the flight crew training program, the operator will receive the authorisation to operate in IFR at Lugano Airport.

Specific professional information concerning the process of obtaining the authorisation may be found under www.lugano-qualification.ch.
